Ars interrogandi as a critical condition in the education of new generations

After an introduction by Andrea Prencipe, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, Professor Simona Romani and Professor Francesco Giorgino debated on the importance of “Ars interrogandi” for the education of new generations.

Starting from Kant’s account of reasons, Cardinal Ravasi led students through a deep and inspiring exploration of the main categories lying beneath investigating and enquiring, i.e. analysis, curiosity, wonder, trepidation. Simona Romani stressed the Luiss enquiry-based teaching model, as a mean to educate and train “enquirers”, that is conscious and aware world citizens able to use inquiry to address the complex challenges offered by the evolving reality, and able to offer new perspectives in current and future job environments. Francesco Giorgino has emphasized that being able to give answers is fundamental for academics; they should be able to learn and unlearn in the same time to avoid falling in the trap of giving rushed responses. All this is food for thought in view of the next conference, on “Ars respondendi”, which will be held in the next few weeks.
