Andrea Prencipe, has served as Rector of Luiss University in Rome since 2018. Leading one of Europe’s fastest-growing universities specialized in the Social Sciences, he is committed to fostering academic innovation, encouraging students to take on an active role in their educational paths, and promoting the university’s civic engagement and service to society.

His preferred subject of research and teaching, as well as the principle inspiring his decisions and actions at Luiss, is innovation. Since the start of his term as Rector, he has led the development of an enquiry-based educational model, encouraging critical and creative thinking. He ha salso promoted the introduction of interdisciplinary degree programs, such as the Master’s degree in Global Management and Politics and the Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He has supported Luiss growth in internationalization. Under his lead, Luiss has improved its standing in international rankings, the faculty and student population have increased their diversity and inclusiveness , and new double degree programs have been launched.

Prior to his ter mas Rector, Andrea has been Deputy Rector of Luiss and Associate Dean for international development of Luiss Business School. Since 2012 he has been Full Professor of Innovation and Organization. From 2006 to 2012 he was Full Professor of Economics and Business Management at the University G. D’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. He has multiple years of experience designing executives courses that address the needs of the job market and has worked with important economic and business players such as Finmeccanica.

After reading Economics & Business at the University of Chieti-Pescara G. D’Annunzio, Andrea specialized in innovation studies and received an MA in Innovation Management from the St. Anna School of Advanced Studies, an MSc in Technology and Innovation Management from SPRU (University of Sussex), and a PhD in Science and Technology Policy Studies from SPRU. He has held academic positions at the University of Sussex, INSEAD, and University G. d’Annunzio, has been Visiting Professor at the Rotterdam School of Management and BI School of Management, and Honorary Professor at the University of Sussex. Andrea has been an invited speaker at various international universities, including Harvard Business School, the University of Michigan, Oxford University, and taught courses on innovation at Solvay Business School (B) and the National Economic University of Hanoi.

His research focuses on innovation-related issues in firms, on organizational learning in project-based organizations, and on the relationships between regional social capital and innovation processes. His research works have been published in international journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Industrial and Corporate Change, Organization Science, California Management Review and with international publishers – e.g. Oxford University Press. He sits on the editorial board of top academic journals such as Organization Science, International Journal of Project Management, and Research Policy. His work frequently appears in national (Corriere della Sera, Sole 24 Ore) and international newspapers (Financial Times).
